According to Nokia's mBit study, 10 million 5G devices are already operating in India as the government prepares for 5G spectrum auctions.
According to the survey, which analyses mobile broadband traffic on an annual basis, the country saw the largest growth in mobile broadband subscribers over the last five years in 2021, with the total number of users tripling during that time.
According to the survey, India already has 765 million mobile broadband subscribers, up from 345 million five years ago, and 5G services will earn $9 billion in revenue by 2021.
It noted that 90 percent of Indians prefer to consume content in local languages and digital advertising on short-form videos could account for as much as 20 percent of the country’s digital advertising market by 2030.
According to the research, 5G will generate 1% of global GDP or $1.3 trillion in income by 2030.
Healthcare, utilities, media applications, manufacturing, and smart cities will be among the most important use cases.
According to the mBit research, 4G data traffic is expected to climb by 31% in 2021, with the average user utilizing 17 GB of 4G mobile data each month.
In 2021, India added over 40 million new users, including those who upgraded to 4G.
In addition, 4G accounted for nearly all of the data traffic generated in India.
The rise in numbers is also linked to an increase in the number of 4G devices shipped.
In 2021, India will have more than 160 million smartphones and 30 million 5G devices.
According to the survey, active 4G devices accounted for more than 80% of the total, while 5G devices accounted for more than 10 million.
"Now, with the upcoming 5G spectrum auction and the commercial launch of services later this year, India will be able to bridge the digital divide and enable service providers to provide new and exciting use cases like Industry 4.0 and smart cities to fuel the digital economy," said Sanjay Malik, SVP and Head of Nokia's India Market.
